TRADE FAIRS & EVENTS | PREVIEW ELECTRONICA 2024
electronica 2024 focuses on the vision of an all-electric society
From 12-15 November 2024, electronica will open its doors in Munich, Germany. More than 3,000 exhibitors from all over the world will present their latest products and solutions in the field of electronics.
Visitors to this year’s electronica can look forward to a wealth of innovations. SEMICON Europa, the trade fair for the semiconductor industry, will take place at the same time. For the first time, all 18 exhibition halls in Munich will be occupied. Images: electronica 2022/Messe München
electronica’s extensive supporting programme includes practical forums, conferences and special events. According to the organisers, the trade fair provides an international platform for dialogue that paves the way to the “all-electric society”, where energy demand is met by CO2-neutral electricity. Among the exhibitors are many industry experts who will share their practical knowledge in presentations and discussions at the electronica forums. These will take place on six different stages across the respective exhibition areas and will cover nearly all areas of application in electronics. Topics range from automotive and electrical connectors to embedded systems, IIoT and powerelectronics. The programme has been redesigned for 2024 by expanding existing topics and introducing new priorities such as AI, machine learning and women in tech. The Wireless Congress: Systems & Applications, taking place on 13 and 14 November brings together the international wireless community and will focus on the latest developments and practical applications of advanced wireless systems in the industry.
CEOs share their outlook for the future An essential part of every electronica is the CEO Roundtable, which will take place on 11 November at 5 pm, the evening before the first day of the fair, at the ICM. This year, the discussion round with distinguished guests will focus on the topic “Leading the Way to the All-Electric Society”. The CEOs Jean-Marc Chery (STMicroelectronics), Jochen Hanebeck (Infineon Technologies) and Kurt Sievers (NXP Semiconductors) will be participating, along with Barbara Bergmeier, Executive Director Industrial Operations at Jaguar Land Rover, as an invited guest.
Shaping a sustainable future Sustainability is a recurring theme throughout the exhibition and supporting programme. In addition to numerous presentations on the various stages and at the conferences, a number of special events are dedicated to the topic. On 13 November, for example, the bgreen leaders network will offer a day-long programme of lectures and panel discussions on the latest trends and challenges in sustainability and the circular economy. At the All-Electric Society Tour, supported by the German Electro and Digital Industry Association (ZVEI), visitors can experience the contributions of selected exhibitors to the topic, live on an individual tour of their booths.
Stage for young talents
As a future-oriented sector, the electronics industry needs the best minds. The electronica Fast Forward platform provides start-ups with a stage (hall B4.440). In cooperation with
In-depth insights into automotive and wireless trends
Two major international conferences are taking place at the ICM (International Congress Center) alongside electronica. The electronica Automotive Conference on 11 November will bring together specialists and executives from the entire supply chain of the industry in the lead-up to the trade fair. Among the keynote speakers are industry giants such as Peter Schiefer, Automotive President of Infineon Technologies, and Gregg Lowe, CEO of Wolfspeed. This year’s automotive conference at electronica will focus on future trends and challenges in the areas of electrification, sustainability and cybersecurity, as well as developments in interior design trends and driver assistance systems.
60 YEARS OF ELECTRONICA In 2024, eletronica, described by its organisers as "the world's leading trade fair for electronics," celebrates its 60th anniversary from 12-15 November, occupying all 18 exhibition halls of Messe Munich for the first time. electronica made its debut in 1964 as the first trade fair in Germany devoted solely to electronic components. The first edition in Munich in October 1964 proved to be a resounding success with 407 companies from 16 countries exhibiting, two-thirds of them abroad, particularly from the US, followed by Great Britain and France. Around 14,000 trade visitors attended. The second edition in 1966 already attracted nearly 800 exhibitors and 22,000 visitors. Over the years, electronica has tracked innovations in the international electronics industry, providing a comprehensive market overview of its latest products, technologies and solutions every two years. Numerous innovations, such as the microchip, were presented to the world for the first time at electronica, and technological milestones have shaped the trade fair. These included, for example, the introduction of microprocessors in the 1970s, the development of mobile communication in the 1980s and 1990s and the rapid advances in digitalisation in the 2000s, with the spread of wireless internet.
Elektor, selected young companies are given the opportunity to present their innovations and compete for the coveted Fast Forward Award. This year also sees the introduction of a special stand (B4.440) for influencers in the electronics scene, with names such as Max.Imagination, DIY GUY Chris and GreatScott!. Careers and young talents are another focus. The Career Area (B4.359) offers daily personal advice on applications and career planning, as well as a job market with industry information and exclusive job offers. The Young Talents Day, on the last day of the fair, 15 November, offers students an additional programme of tours, workshops and career advice with free admission. The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research’s InnoTruck will also be on site (Atrium between A1 and B1). Over two floors, the mobile exhibition will focus on technical innovations from research to everyday applications and the associated job profiles.
